Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered below, please contact our friendly reception team
by phone on 02 4981 8800 or email at reception@healthinabundance.com.au
or via our website contact form.

Do you offer bulk billed appointments?

Health In Abundance is a mixed billing practice which means that most consultations will incur a gap fee after the Medicare rebate. Medicare rebates can be processed on the day back into your nominated bank account by our reception staff.

All Doctors charge individually which means if you don’t see your usual provider on the day your consultation fee may be different than you’re used to.
Pension card holders and children 15 years and younger will be bulk billed for most consults.
Discounted rates are offered for health care card holders.

Please see our fees page for more information.

Can my appointment be over the phone?

At this time, telehealth appointments are only available for covid positive patients. Extenuating circumstances may apply.

I just need a script or referral. Do I need an appointment?

Yes. All scripts and referrals require an appointment to give the doctor time to review your history and ask any relevant questions before issuing the script or writing the referral.

Do I have to see the same doctor for every appointment?

It is recommended for continuity of care that you see the same doctor each time you visit. However, in cases where your regular doctor is unavailable, your health information and history are accessible by all of our clinicians.

What is a registrar?

We are a teaching practice registered with the Australian College of Rural & Remote Medicine. A registrar is a qualified medical officer who is in the process of completing their specialist training to be a General Practitioner. Registrars participate in a 3 to 4 year program which sees them practice under the supervision and guidance of experienced GP supervisor in the general practice and hospital setting.

Here at Health in Abundance, Dr Rallings and Dr Behne are supervisors who oversee our registrars. Registrars are required to do rotations that give them experience across a range of health settings, which means they only able to stay at the one location for up to 12 months.

Can I book an urgent same-day appointment?

Our practice reserves a limited number of appointments each day for unforeseen, urgent medical issues. These appointments are triaged by our reception and clinical staff, and are allocated based on clinical need and availability.

Once our urgent on the day appointments are full, patients with urgent medical issues will be added to our daily triage list. This list is monitored and discussed with a GP throughout the day to ensure that urgent issues are not kept waiting for too long, and it is also reviewed by a GP before being finalised at the end of the day.

Do you offer walk-in appointments?

Health in Abundance FMP operates on a pre-booked appointment basis and is not a walk-in clinic.

As detailed above, our practice reserves a limited number of appointments each day for unforeseen, urgent medical issues. However, walk-ins are not guaranteed priority over patients who contact the practice by phone and will be triaged in the same manner as phone requests. Patients with urgent concerns are urged to call at 9am on the day to facilitate your care appropriately and as efficiently as possible.

Do I need to do a covid test before my appointment?

If you have any respiratory or flu-like symptoms, we required you to do a rapid antigen test (RAT) no more than 4 hours before your appointment.

Respiratory symptoms include:
– Fever, chills
– Cough (new or worsening)
– Sore throat
– Runny nose, sneezing or congestion
– Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
– Marked or unusual fatigue
– Muscle/body aches
– Headache
– Acute loss of sense of smell or taste
